Home Improvement

Does your home need some TLC?  Did you know that there are financial benefits to updating your home?  Over the next few weeks, I'm going to share with you some helpful tips for remodeling and how to put money back in your pocket.

Look at the photo accompanying this blog.  It was built in 1972 and its exterior walls were 2 x 4 construction, not the 2 x 6 construction that is used now.  It's windows were old aluminum windows.  The home owner received a check for replacing the old windows with new windows that had a U-value of .30 or less.  The home owner looks forward to receiving additional checks for replacing the insulation, updating the baseboard heaters to a heat pump, replacing the water heater and purchasing new appliances.

Tip #1:  Energy Trust of Oregon pays incentives to home owners for energy efficient upgrades.  Visit www.energytrust.org or call 866-368-7878.

Remember, a small investment in maintenance now, could save you from costly repairs later!
